From first open to a configured client profile in under 5 minutes.
Visit speakaac.org/app.html on any browser. Bookmark it or tap "Add to Home Screen" for a native-app feel on iPad or Android.
Tap Sign In → Create Account. One account manages all your client profiles. Your account is what the Clinic or Institution plan is attached to.
Tap Provider Settings → Run Setup Again. The 10-step wizard asks about diagnosis, age range, motor ability, sensory profile, and preferred vocabulary level. Speak configures the symbol grid automatically.
In Provider Settings → Trusted Safety Contact, enter the name and email of the trusted adult (parent, other clinician, supervisor). This is the person notified if the client activates the private help channel.
In Provider Settings → Kiosk Mode, lock the app to fullscreen. The client cannot navigate away. Exit requires your 4-digit Provider PIN.
After each session, tap Log to see the full timestamped communication history. The Provider Dashboard shows weekly activity charts, most-used symbols, and category breakdown. Export to CSV for documentation.
Children with communication disabilities are abused at 3–4 times the rate of their non-disabled peers, and the traditional reporting pipeline breaks down entirely when a child cannot speak. Speak's private safety channel gives every client a mechanism to silently alert a trusted adult outside the primary caretaker relationship — with no visible action on the device and no sound.
In a clinical setting, you can configure the trusted contact as a supervising clinician, a school social worker, or another trusted professional. The alert fires immediately via email and includes the reason the client selected and a timestamp.
The safety channel is free on every plan, forever. It is never paywalled, regardless of subscription tier.

If you are a healthcare provider or clinic using Speak to support clients and you bill insurance, you may require a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Speak is HIPAA-capable on Clinic and Institution plans — your client data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+) via Supabase, which is SOC 2 Type II certified and supports HIPAA.
To receive a signed BAA: email support@speakaac.org with the subject line "BAA Request" and your clinic or practice name. We'll return a signed agreement within one business day.
For FERPA agreements (school districts), use subject line "FERPA Request".
Speak is built on the belief that AAC is a complete, valid, permanent communication system — not a stepping stone toward verbal speech. We do not frame nonverbal communication as a deficit to be corrected. The app is designed to give clients more power to communicate in the way that works for them, with no implicit pressure toward a "better" outcome.
