Everything you need to know
Once loaded, all core symbols, audio, and app features work completely offline. An internet connection is only needed to load symbol images for the first time, and to use the AI Sentence Builder. After your first session, the app is fully cached.
Speak works on any modern browser — iPad, iPhone, Android tablets and phones, Windows, Mac, and Chromebook. You can install it on your home screen from Safari or Chrome like a native app. No App Store, no Google Play, no download fees.
When the resident or child presses Help and chooses "I feel unsafe," Speak silently sends an email to the trusted contact you set up during onboarding — a family member, facility administrator, or SLP. Nothing visible happens on the device. No sound. No mail app opens. The person in the room sees nothing. The trusted contact gets an email within seconds with what was selected and a timestamp — creating a documented incident record.
Speak is designed with privacy as a core principle — no personal data collected from children, all profile data encrypted in transit and at rest, no ads, no data selling. We are currently working with legal counsel to complete formal HIPAA certification for clinical plans. A BAA is available for clinics evaluating Speak in the meantime. COPPA compliance for children under 13 is built into the data architecture.

Yes, on the Clinic plan. Enter a teacher's email in Provider Settings → Teacher / School Access. They get read-only access to a communication log and usage stats through a separate Teacher Dashboard — they can never change any settings. Teachers sign in with their own account and only see children explicitly assigned to them.
